Wallis Tractor CompanyOverview
  • Founded in the early 20th century, Wallis Tractor Company was known for its innovative tractor designs.
  • The company introduced the Wallis Cub tractor, featuring a patented U-frame design, which was significant in tractor manufacturing.

  • In 1928, Massey-Harris acquired Wallis Tractor Company, enhancing its tractor production capabilities.
  • The Wallis U-frame design improved manufacturing efficiency and protected key components from debris.
Massey-HarrisFormation and Growth
  • Massey-Harris was established in 1891 through the merger of Massey Manufacturing Co. and A. Harris, Son & Co.
  • It became the largest agricultural equipment manufacturer in the British Empire, producing threshing machines and reapers.
Innovations
  • The company entered the tractor market in 1917, initially marketing three-wheel tractors.

Overview of Galloway Gas Engines
Galloway gas engines were produced by the William Galloway Company, established in Waterloo, Iowa, in 1906. The company initially focused on manufacturing agricultural products but soon expanded into gas engine production.
Key Developments
  • Early Production: Galloway began building gasoline engines in the late 1890s, with the first Galloway engines produced in 1906. Initially, engines were built by an established firm, but by 1908, Galloway had its own manufacturing facility.
  • Engine Models: The company offered a range of engines, including the "Frostfree" line, which featured water-cooled engines from 1-3/4 to 15 horsepower. Prices for these engines varied, with the smallest models starting around $29.75 in 1913.
  • Innovations: Galloway engines were known for their reliability and simplicity. They included features like spark plug ignition and were available in both stationary and portable versions.
